If you have two synology NASes  there are a lot of ways for you to backup your data.

You can backup your data using:

1. File station : Drag and drop files between NASes
2. Cloud Station ShareSync: One/Two way sync for files and folders that change frequently in real time (hot storage).
3. Shared Folder Sync: One way sync for files and folders that do not change that often (cold storage).
4. Snapshot Replication: Snapshots of your folders on specific periods of time.
5. Hyper Backup (this post): Data backed up are kept in a database which can be browsed, downloaded or restored with tailor-made multi-version explorer on DSM, Windows and Linux platforms.

In this post we will cover Hyper Backup. With Hyper Backup, up to 65535 versions of your data can be retained while storage consumption is minimized with cross-version deduplication. Data backed up are kept in a proprietary database which means that to be able to view your back up data, you need to download a Synology proprietary tool called Backup Explorer.

Create a Hyper Backup in your Synology

A hyper Backup it is very easy to do. You just follow this steps;

1. Click on the menu button 
2. The old backup button called “Backup and Restore” has been replaced by “Hyper Backup”. Click on it:

and you will see they new backup possibilities:

4. Click on the plus button at the lower left hand corner and click on ” Data back up task”:

Click on remote synolgy NAS:

and then just fill in the details for your remote synology:

1. Server name: xxx.synology.me
2. Trasnfer encryption: on
3. Port: You need to open poer 6281 in your router
4. Username: the username of your remote synology
5. Password: the password of your remote synology
6. Shared folder: pick a shared folder from your remote synology

and then pick the services and folders you want to back and the periodicity and you are done!!

Cons of hyper backup

The issues with the hyper back is that the file is encrypted and you wont be able to easily access the contents of it. You will need a special program and it doesnt make it convenient if you want to quickly access your files.
