The best way to extend the life of your Synology is to keep it clean.
Dust will eventually damage your hard drives and electronics.
To prolong the life of your synology:
- Keep it in a clean, cool place
- Vacuum clean it when you start to have a lot of dust. You will see it just by looking through the open spaces.
I keep my Synology on a room which does not have direct sun and in a room that is not used frequently.
I have had mine for almost a year and today I decided to check for dust for the first time.
Remember to shut down your synology before cleaning!
This is the dust accumulated for 11 months. Not much right?
For my DS713+ I only needed to shut down the NAS, take out the drives and vacuum clean them carefully.
It only takes a few minutes to do this and it will prolong the life of your synology, so remember to look for dust once in a while.
